Welcome to Upside Downie
Land Acknowledgment
We acknowledge & celebrate the traditional territories of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, Munsee-Delaware Nation, and Delaware Nation of Moraviantown Peoples on which Upside Downie Homestead is located. We respect the longstanding relationships Indigenous Nations have with this land as its original stewards. We acknowledge past and ongoing injustices towards Indigenous Peoples and are committed to Truth and Reconciliation. We honor the contributions of First Nations and all Original Peoples of Turtle Island and are grateful for the opportunity to live, learn, and share in community.
A good friend of ours sent a text with an MLS link and the simple caption, "I found your dream." The next day, we drove out to West Lorne, turned onto the quiet gravel road, pulled up alongside the century old silver maples and the sweet smell of mid-summer flowers and fell in love. A week later, our comfortable suburban home in London was on the market and the free spirited girl from Toronto, her risk-cautious engineer partner, their two kiddos under three and their two loyal pups were eager to embark on the journey of a lifetime- to become homesteaders and the stewards of a magical new home! We had never pruned a fruit tree, raised a chick, or grew vegetables on a plot larger than 12 square feet and yet there we were, excited and nervous ('nerve-cited' as our daughter says), about to turn things upside downie!
Nestled on two picturesque acres on the outskirts of West Lorne lies Upside Downie Homestead - a place where the past and present seamlessly intertwine. Once a bustling working farm, the Morrison family breathed new life into the property in the late 1800s. Today, it serves as both our home and sanctuary, where we live, play, grow, learn, and cherish the enchanting essence of the land. As you explore the property, you'll discover the beauty of spring wildflowers, the splendor of summer sunsets, the deliciousness of fresh-picked fruit, the majesty of towering silver maples, and the culinary delights of farm-to-table meals grown in our organic gardens. We invite you to experience the magic of Upside Downie Homestead for yourself.
From the minute we stepped foot on the grounds of Upside Downie, we have felt compelled to protect and uphold its beauty and its magic. Our vision is to work in harmony with nature while we learn, grow, celebrate, create, explore, and gather here for years to come and to share the magic of this place we are lucky to call home with our friends, family and community.
